Plans finalised for new private hospital in Orihuela Costa
The new medical centre plus a shopping centre will be located close to Zenia Boulevard

Two companies are working together on plans to build a new private hospital, complete with shopping centre, in Orihuela Costa. The new facility will be located between Calle Pimienta and Clavo on the Villa Martin road, right across from the Los Dolses residential area.
The two-storey, 16,000 square metre building, which will house both commercial and healthcare spaces, will be conveniently located just 500 metres from the AP-7 motorway and a stone’s throw away from Zenia Boulevard Commercial Centre.
The plot of land measures 33,400 square metres in total but much of this will be taken up with green areas and footpaths. At the moment, the plans indicate that the building could be used as either a medical centre or a nursing home, but the developers themselves are leaning towards a hospital since it’s in such a high demand in Orihuela Costa.
For the last five years, the council has been promising to either extend the current medical centre in Aguamarina, Cabo Roig, or build a new one in a different location, but neither of these plans has come to fruition. Orihuela Costa has an official population of 30,000 year-round residents, many of whom are expats, but these numbers swell significantly during the summer months.
All of these locals and tourists have to contend with long queues at the Aguamarine health centre or travel to the public Torrevieja University Hospital of private Quirón Hospital.
Back in January, Orihuela mayor Pepe Vegara announced that the Ribera Salud group had been given the green light to construct a private hospital in Lomas de Cabo Roig, but further details have since been kept firmly under wraps.
Meanwhile, the new health facilities in Los Dolses are in the environmental phase. Despite some backlash from environmental groups, the studies so far have indicated that the building work won’t have any adverse impact. The development will now pass into the planning phase.
