Paraglider dies after crashing into Alicante mountain
The freak accident happened at the Camara mountain range in Elda in the Mitja Vinalopo area of Alicante province
A 45-year-old paraglider suffered catastrophic injuries and died after crashing into a Camara mountainside in the Peñas de Marín area of Elda.
The freak accident happened shortly before 2.30pm on Saturday June 18. According to Alicante Firefighters' Consortium, despite activating his emergency parachute "the athlete was unable to avoid smashing into the mountain".

The horror incident was witnessed by a companion who confirmed the victim had "opened his emergency parachute to avoid the crash, but to no avail".
His body was discovered a few metres from the parachute at the base of the mountain by a fire and rescue helicopter team and taken to a heliport at Elda Local Police's HQ. No further details have been disclosed.
Two fire crews, a mountain rescue team and Alpha 01 helicopter were involved in the recovery operation.
