Paedophile wanted in Germany arrested in Alicante
The predator was hiding out in Orihuela to avoid a 10-year prison sentence
An international manhunt came to a close this week with the capture of a 64-year-old fugitive in the province of Alicante. This predator, who was on the run from German authorities, had been hiding in plain sight to avoid serving a 10-year prison sentence for sexual abuse, coercion and rape.
The case began with a European Arrest Warrant issued by German authorities, who sought justice for crimes committed more than a decade ago. Between August 2010 and February 2012, in the city of Wuppertal, Germany, the fugitive committed unspeakable acts against the daughter of friends.
Suspecting that the man may have settled somewhere on the Costa Blanca, the National Police in Alicante launched a widespread search. Their efforts eventually paid off and the suspect was picked up in Orihuela.
Although the fugitive is actually a Bulgarian national, his horrendous crimes date back to a time when he was living in Germany. During a trial, the courts heard that he had repeatedly sexually assaulted the young daughter of a couple with whom he was living.
The detainee has been handed over to the authorities at the Central Court of Instruction of the National Court, who are now carrying out the procedures for his subsequent extradition back to Germany.
