Orange and yellow alerts for rain this Sunday in Murcia and Valencia
Extreme caution is advised in the face of the continuing rainstorms on Spain’s eastern coast
Spain’s State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has issued several rain warnings for Sunday November 3, some of them at orange level.
According to the latest forecasts, rainfall is expected throughout the Region of Murcia, especially in the Vega del Segura, the Guadalentín Valley and Campo de Cartagena areas, where orange level alerts have been activated from 6am to 6pm.
In the rest of the Region, yellow warnings have been issued.
Aemet warns of storms that may be strong and persistent and that there could be accumulated rainfall of up to 40mm in one hour in some parts of the Region and up to 100mm in 12 hours.
Morning mists are also expected in the inland parts.
In Alicante and Almería, too, there are yellow warnings for wind and rain, while Valencia – the place hardest hit by the DANA storm that has killed at least 211 people across Spain – the orange-level weather warnings continue for more thunderstorms, rain and strong winds.
In the wake of the tragedy, the president of the Region of Murcia, Fernando López Miras, urged people to exercise “great caution,” saying that “it is essential to follow the official recommendations to avoid risks”.
For the following days, Aemet forecasts that the rain will begin to clear up from Monday onwards, and that Tuesday and Wednesday will be sunny and dry in Murcia and Valencia.
