November 21 Comedy drama in Águilas
El Barbero de Picasso at the seafront auditorium in Águilas
This year’s Paco Rabal Amateur Dramatics Festival in Águilas, named after one of the town’s most famous and best-loved sons, comes to a close on Saturday 21st November with a performance of the hilarious comedy drama El Barbero de Picasso (Picasso's Barber), written by Borja Ortiz de Gondra, performed by the professional actors of the Teatro Español and directed by Chiqui Carabante.
The part of Picasso is played by Pepe Viyuela, well-known for his film and TV comedy roles in Mortadelo y Filemón and Aída, among others.
The action is based on the relationship between the (bald!) painter and his barber, Eugenio Arias, in Vallauris (France) beginning in 1948, when the two Republicans exiled after the Civil War began a friendship which would last the rest of their lives.
The performance at the Auditiorio Infanta Doña Elena begins at 21.00, after the prizes are awarded for the amateur dramatics festival, with tickets priced at 25 euros and available online here or direct from the Museo Arqueológico and the Casa de la Cultura. Season tickets for all five productions featured in the festival can be purchased for 40 euros (online here). Tickets can also be purchase in person at the archaeological museum, the Casa de la Cultura and at the box office of the auditorium one hour before the curtain rises.

Águilas boasts 28 kilometres of coastline, with many fine, sandy beaches, sheltered coves and unspoilt natural beaches. Throughout the year the tourist office runs monthly guided tours and the route of the railways, which explores the railway history of the town.
The tourist information office is located in the Plaza de Antonio Cortijos, just a short walk from the sea front and Plaza de España, a cool, shaded space in which to enjoy a coffee.
