Nov 30-Dec 2 Orihuela Tapas and Gin Route
The 3-day festival will celebrate Orihuela’s rich food history with a few tasty tipples along the way
Preparations for the ninth edition of Orihuela’s famous ‘Tapa and Cocktail/Gin-Tonic Route, history of the Mediterranean’ got underway this week. The iconic event will run from November 30 until December 2 and at the end, the best tapa in the region will be crowned.
“Gastronomy is an essential part of our culture and, therefore, we want to value it and make it known through the celebration, again, from the Tapa Route in Orihuela,” highlighted local Tourism Councillor Gonzalo Montoya.
Bars and restaurants interested in participating in this contest must register between Thursday October 19 and Thursday November 2.
The unique gastronomic event features several different categories: Savoury tapa + drink for 3.50 euros; Sweet tapa + drink for 3 euros; and venues have also been invited to present coeliac options if they wish. Of course, local gins and cocktails feature heavily but each establishment will be allowed to set their own prices.
Full details of the bars and restaurants participating in the competition will be released at the María Moliner Municipal Library at 11am on Monday November 6.
There will be three prizes for the ‘Best Tapa’ award, a prize for the ‘Best Sweet Tapa’ and one for ‘Best Cocktail/Gin-Tonic.’
- First prize ‘Best Tapa’: 400 euros from the Central Rural Bank
- Second prize ‘Best Tapa’: Awarded with an advertising campaign of 60 spots and an interview by Onda Cero Vega Baja
- Third prize ‘Best Tapa’: Awarded with an advertising campaign of 30 spots and an interview by Onda Cero Vega Baja by Radio Sureste Cope
- ‘Best Sweet Tapa’ Award: 200 euros from Caja Rural Central
- ‘Best Cocktail/Gin-Tonic’ Award: Products by Central Hisumer.
All participating establishments will also receive a diploma of recognition from the Department of Tourism.
Further information about the event, along with the contest rules, can be found on the official website.
