New 205-space car park planned beside Orihuela Costa beach
The new car park beside La Glea beach in Dehesa de Campoamor aims to ease summer parking headaches and reduce congestion

Finding a parking space near some of Orihuela Costa's most popular beaches can feel like a challenge at the best of times, particularly during the height of summer when thousands of visitors descend on the coastline each day.
In a bid to ease the problem, Orihuela City Council is building a new public car park next to La Glea beach in Dehesa de Campoamor, creating space for more than 200 vehicles within walking distance of the seafront.
The project is being carried out by municipal company Ecoplan through the council's Department of Infrastructure in collaboration with the Department of Coastal Affairs.
Regular visitors to La Glea beach will probably recognise the area, as it's already widely used for parking. The difference is that the new scheme will introduce a formal layout with 205 marked spaces, a one-way traffic system and improved signage designed to reduce congestion and make better use of the available space.
Plans for the site include angled parking bays arranged at 45 degrees, along with a dedicated entrance and exit to keep vehicles moving more smoothly through the car park. There will also be a separate area for coaches and six accessible spaces reserved for people with reduced mobility.
Councillor for Infrastructure Víctor Valverde said the new facility responds to the needs of both year-round residents and seasonal visitors.
"We continue to improve the infrastructure of Orihuela Costa with projects that respond to the real needs of residents and visitors," he explained.
"This new parking area will allow us to better organise parking in a very busy part of the coast and improve access to La Glea beach."
Mayor Pepe Vegara said improvements like this are particularly important during the summer months, when the population of Orihuela Costa swells significantly.
"These types of actions are fundamental to continue improving the services we offer on the coast, especially during the months with the greatest number of visitors, creating a more organised and convenient experience for everyone," he said.
