ARCHIVED - New restrictions across Valencia region and curfews in 77 towns
New anti-Covid measures in Valencia region's three provinces, including Alicante, and an extension of curfews.
President of the Valencian government has today confirmed proposals to restrict night mobility in a total of 77 municipalities, inluding Benidorm, as well as to limit social gatherings to 10 people, both in public and private, throughout the region from Monday, July 26.
Puig also "insists" on the use of facemasks and has called for "cooperation to strictly comply with the quarantine and isolation periods and inform the authorities of all contacts in the event of contagion", in a bid to halt a fifth wave of the pandemic which has seen the region's 14-day cumulative incidence rate soar from 26 cases per 100,000 people two months ago to 512.
The restrictions across the region to stop the recent surge in Covid cases, which are pending approval by the Valencian Supreme Court of Justice as a formality, include:
*Limitation of social and family gatherings to a maximum of 10 people both in public and private areas;
*Maximum of 50 per cent capacity at shows and celebrations indoors, which must also finish before 12.30am;
*50 per cent capacity with a maximum of 1,500 people at events in sports venues;
*50 per cent maximum capacity at recreational pools.
Regarding the limitation of night mobility, the "selective curfew" will affect half of the region, since the 77 municipalities affected by the measure have a population greater than 2.6 million inhabitants. These are listed below.
In addition to a tightening of restrictions, the government plans to "accelerate" the vaccination campaign, and will receive 441,570 doses of the Moderna vaccine in August, more than double the amount originally planned.
The Delta variant already accounts for 90 per cent of new cases, so it's "crucial" to intensify and advance vaccination to stop the advance of coronavirus, says Puig.
Three million people have so far received at least one dose, and this week, the roll-out of jabs to 20 and 29-years-old in rural areas started - an age group which has seen the biggest rise in cases and incidence - which will be extended to all areas from Monday. In addition, 17 and 18-year-olds will be vaccinated from the last week in August.
*The curfews, from 1am to 6am, are proposed in 18 towns in the Alicante province: Alffaz del Pi, Alicante city, Banyeres de Mariola, Benidorm, Callosa d'En Sarrià, Callosa de Segura, Calpe, Denia, Gata de Gorgos, La Nucia, Muro de Alcoy, Ondara, Pego, Santa Pola, San Vicente del Raspeig, Sax, Teulada and Villajoyosa.
In the province of Valencia, the restrictions will apply in 48 municipalities: Albal, Alboraya, Alcasser, Aldaia, Alfafar, Alginet, Almussafes, Benaguasil, Benetússer, Benifaió, Bétera, Buñol, Burjassot, Canals, Chiva, Foios, Gandia, Godella, L'Eliana, L'Olleria, Manises, Massamagrell, Massanassa, Meliana, Mislata, Museros, Oliva, Paiporta, Paterna, Picassent, Pobla de Farnals, Pobla de Vallbona, Puçol, Puig, Rafelbunyol, Requena, Riba-roja de Túria, Rocafort, Sagunto, Silla, Sueca, Tavernes de la Valldigna, Turís, Utiel, Valencia, Vilamarxant, Xeraco and Xirivella.
