ARCHIVED - New peak in daily cases and hospital admissions: Valencia Covid update December 7
3,444 cases in three days and more than 530 Covid patients are currently hospitalised on the Costa Blanca
Daily Covid cases have reached a new peak in the Valencia region with the Ministry of Health reporting 3,444 cases and two deaths since the last update on Saturday December 4.
And an additional 110 Covid patients have been admitted to hospitals, 20 in ICU, across the region's three provinces of Alicante, Valencia and Castellon since last Friday.
The new infections represent a 20% increase on the 2,863 positives reported over a two day period on Monday November 29, and include four outbreaks of 10 or more cases, with a total of 46 infections.
In a bid to halt the continued rise in Covid cases, and a soaring 14-day cumulative incidence rate which has reached 291 cases per 100,000 inhabitant, the regional government implemented the mandatory Covid passport at leisure and hospitality venues, festivals. large celebrations and for hospital and elderly residence visits at the weekend.
And there has been a 74% increase in first vaccinations since it was announced at the end of November the government planned to make the Covid certificate compulsory at certain establishments and venues.
New cases
A further 3,444 new cases have been reported since Saturday December 4, bringing the total number of positives since the beginning of the pandemic to 542,396 people. By province: 483 in Castellón (59,186 in total); 1,050 in Alicante (197,400) and 1,911 in Valencia (285,809).
Recoveries
2,654 people have recovered from Covid since the last update, meaning that to date, 529,802 people in the Valencian region have overcome the virus. By province: 57,385 in Castellón, 193,216 in Alicante and 279,145 in Valencia. The total number of unassigned discharges remains at 56.
Hospitalisations
There are currently 531 people admitted to hospitals in the three provinces, up from 453 on Monday November 29, 92 of whom are being treated in ICU (19 more): 89 in the province of Castellón, 12 in ICU; 183 in the province of Alicante, 34 in the ICU; and 259 in the province of Valencia, 46 of them in the ICU.
Fatalities
There have been two reported deaths which occurred in the last seven days, aged 58 and 83-years-old. This means the total number of fatalities since the start of the pandemic stands at 7,941: 877 of these deaths have been recorded in Castellón; 3,053 in Alicante; and 4,011 in the province of Valencia.
Vaccinations
There has been no update on the number of people vaccinated, although more than 2,000 people received vaccines at a walk-in centre in Valencia over the weekend. Previous figures show 4,227,203 people have received one dose of vaccine, and 4,162,465 people are now fully immunised with two doses of Pfizer, Moderna or AstraZeneca, or the single-dose Janssen.
Active cases
According to the latest data, there are currently 16,094 active cases, which represents 2.91% of the total positives.
Outbreaks
Since the last update there have been four reported outbreaks with 10 or more associated cases: San Vincente Del Raspeig (13 cases); Torrevieja (13 cases); L'Olleria (20); and Monovar (10).
