ARCHIVED - NASA shares stunning space image of pink lagoon in Torrevieja, Spain
The incredible shot of the lagoons in the Vega Baja town, Alicante province, was taken from the International Space Station
The Alicante coastal town of Torrevieja is famous for its spectacular magical pink lakes at the Natural Park lagoons of La Mata and now images of the unique environment taken from space have been shared with tens of millions of social network users around the world.
The incredible shot taken from the International Space Station has been shared by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) on its Instagram account which has a whopping 75.6 million followers.
The stunning photograph is one of several space photographs of fascinating world landscapes posted on the US agency's account under 'Highlights' for users to download as wallpaper images.
Appreciating the remarkable salt lakes and ancient crytallisers at ground level is one thing, but the snapshot, shared this week, truly emphasises the tone of the pink lagoon (Laguna Salada de Torrevieja), the green water of the Laguna Salada de la Mata and startling blue of the sea in contrast to the town centre.
The unique panorama of Torrevieja shares the limelight on NASA's Instagram account with the Malaspina glacier in Alaska, Lake Carnegie in Australia, Jau National Park in Brazil, Greenland, the Sahara desert, the Anti-Atlas mountains in Morocco and a view of planet Earth at night, amongst other images selected in the agency's latest batch of awesome spectacles from space.
