Murcia motorcyclist decapitated on RM-422 dual carriageway

The headless body was discovered on a busy stretch of road between Abanilla and Pinoso in Alicante

The 112 Emergency Coordination Centre in Murcia received a panicked call from a motorist on Monday morning, March 31, reporting that he had driven passed a dead body lying beside a motorcycle on the road between Abanilla and the Alicante town of Pinoso. To the driver’s horror, the biker had been decapitated.

Since the scene of the accident is on the border between Alicante and Murcia, Local Police and Guardia Civil from both regions rushed to the site, which is located between kilometres 12 and 13 of the RM-422 dual carriageway, at Cañada de la Leña.

The motorcyclist has since been identified as a 51-year-old resident of Fortuna, who had been out riding alone when tragedy struck shortly before 10.30am.

The authorities believe the biker somehow lost control of his motorcycle and ran off the left side of the road, smashing into the guardrail.

According to 112, medical services did not respond to the scene because, based on the injuries described by the driver who reported the accident, there was nothing that could be done to save his life.
