Man shot dead outside La Manga Golf Club
At this stage, investigators haven’t ruled out murder or suicide

An investigation has been launched into the death of a 58-year-old Spanish man whose lifeless body was found outside La Manga Golf Club with a gunshot wound to the chest. His body was discovered on Friday night, February 28.
The grim discovery was made by a security guard carrying out routine checks shortly after 9pm. The victim was lying beside an open car which had been abandoned on the side of a roundabout. The staff member quickly established that he had no pulse and wasn’t breathing.
An ambulance was dispatched to the scene and the man was pronounced dead. Guardia Civil sources have revealed that a firearm was found next to the body. It belonged to the victim and was legally registered, but it’s not yet known if the deadly shot came from this weapon.
With the investigation just beginning and a post-mortem still pending, it is not clear whether the man took his own life or if another gunman was involved. Forensic experts are currently examining the trajectory of the bullet to determine whether the man could have shot himself.
The body was handed over to the man’s relatives on Saturday March 1 and laid to rest in a funeral home in Alcantarilla, the municipality where he lived.
The analysis of both the firearm and the interior of the car will shed light on what happened.
Sources close to the man and neighbours from his hometown said that the victim, like several members of his family, was involved in the buying and selling of gold and jewellery.
