Man City footballer arrested in Spain for stealing a phone
Matheus Nunes reportedly took the mobile from an overenthusiastic fan in a Madrid nightclub
Manchester City midfielder Matheus Nunes is facing charges of theft after being arrested in a Madrid nightclub for allegedly stealing a phone from a 58-year-old man.
The incident occurred on September 8, during the FIFA international break, when Nunes was not called up to represent Portugal.
According to reports, Nunes was at the La Riviera nightclub in Madrid when he became involved in an altercation with a fan who was taking his photo in the bathroom. The player allegedly snatched the phone from the fan and was still in possession of it when police arrived at the scene.
He was subsequently arrested and taken to a police station in the Arganzuela district, where he was questioned and released on bail pending trial.
Despite the incident, Nunes did not face any disciplinary action from Manchester City. Since then, he has played four games, displaying a good level of play. He scored a goal against Watford in the League Cup and assisted in the 3-1 win over West Ham.
Nunes, who was signed by Manchester City in 2023 for a whopping 62 million euros from Wolverhampton Wanderers, is considered one of the best midfielders in the world by Pep Guardiola. The 26-year-old is expected to play a key role in the team, particularly with Spaniard Rodri Hernández out with a serious knee injury.
