ARCHIVED - Infections soar by 60 per cent in a week: Valencia Covid update November 29
2,863 new cases and seven outbreaks reported across the region, including Alicante province
New infections have risen 62.49% in the Valencia region with 2,863 reported over the weekend, the highest since mid-August.
In another worrying high, hospital pressure also continues to rise with 56.75% more Covid patients currently being treated on wards and in ICU.
A further four people have died of the virus, aged between 63 and 97-years-old, and there have been seven reported outbreaks with 10 or more associated cases.
The bleak health data, which has seen the 14-day cumulative incident rate surpass 200 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, comes as the Covid passport is approved for use at leisure and hospital venues is approved.
In addition to hotels, bars and restaurants with a capacity of more than 50 people, a Covid certificate will also be required to visit hospitals and elderly residences, and to attend music festivals, events and celebrations with more than 500 attendees.
New cases
A further 2,863 new cases have been reported over the weekend, significantly higher than the 1,762 a week ago, bringing the total number of positives since the beginning of the pandemic to 531,416 people. By province: 339 in Castellón (57,473 in total); 796 in Alicante (193,975) and 1,728 in Valencia (279,967).
Recoveries
1,142 people have recovered from Covid since the last update, meaning that to date, 524,381 people in the Valencian region have overcome the virus. By province: 56,435 in Castellón, 191,544 in Alicante and 276,346 in Valencia. The total number of unassigned discharges remains at 56.
Hospitalisations
There are currently 453 people admitted to hospitals in the three provinces, up from 389 on Friday November 26, 73 of whom are being treated in ICU (five more): 90 in the province of Castellón, 10 in ICU; 155 in the province of Alicante, 29 in the ICU; and 208 in the province of Valencia, 34 of them in the ICU.
Fatalities
There have been four reported deaths which occurred in the last seven days, aged between 63 and 97-years-old. This means the total number of fatalities since the start of the pandemic stands at 7,917: 872 of these deaths have been recorded in Castellón; 3,045 in Alicante; and 4,000 in the province of Valencia.
Vaccinations
A total of 4,227,203 people have received one dose of vaccine, and 4,162,465 people are now fully immunised with two doses of Pfizer, Moderna or AstraZeneca, or the single-dose Janssen.
Active cases
According to the latest data, there are currently 10,559 active cases, which represents 1.95% of the total positives.
Outbreaks
Since the last update there have been seven reported outbreaks with 10 or more associated cases: Foios (11 cases): three outbreaks in Valencia with six, 10 and 20 cases: Torrevieja (17 cases); Alfafar (16).
