Almost 10,000 new coronavirus infections have been registered in the Valencian Community over the weekend

As much of Spain spirals towards the highest risk level for coronavirus, the president of the Valencian Community has appealed to the Supreme Court to extend the use of the Covid passport to all bars and restaurants as well as gyms, sports centres and swimming pools.
While communities are still free to implement their own restrictions, all of the regional leaders will hold a virtual meeting with President Sánchez on Wednesday to discuss a common approach to stem the spread of infections, and Ximo Puig is expected to ask that mask-wearing be reintroduced in outdoor areas in the lead-up to Christmas.
Coronavirus infections
On Monday December 20, the regional health authorities reported an additional 9,648 Covid infections, bringing the total number of cases since the beginning of the pandemic to 577,255.
By province, Castellón has registered 1,226 new infections (64,155 total), Alicante 3,367 (209,659 total) and Valencia has reported 5,055 (303,440 total).
The number of unassigned cases remains at 1.
Cumulative incidence rate
The 14-day incidence rate has shot up once more and now stands at 668.16 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, up from 528 on Friday.
Recoveries
A total of 4,268 people have recovered from coronavirus, meaning that 546,843 people have overcome the disease since the pandemic began in the Valencian Community.
By province: 60,008 in Castellón, 198,519 in Alicante and 288,260 in Valencia.
The total of unassigned discharges remains at 56.
Hospitalisations
There are currently 812 people admitted to hospitals in Valencia, with 148 patients being treated in the ICU.
By province: 147 in the province of Castellon, 24 in the ICU; 251 in Alicante, 54 of them in the ICU; and 414 in Valencia, 70 in the ICU.
Fatalities
Eleven Covid-related deaths have been reported since the last update, bringing the total number of deaths since the start of the pandemic to 8,032.
898 of the fatalities were reported in the province of Castellón, 3,085 in Alicante and 4,049 in Valencia.
These are 4 women of 63, 64, 73 and 90 years old; and 7 men aged between 27 and 85 years.
Active cases
According to the latest data, there are currently 33,821 active cases, which represents 5.75% of the total positives.
Outbreaks
Since the last update, no outbreaks of 10 or more cases have been reported.
Vaccination data
As of December 20, a total of 4,488,459 in the Community of Valencia are now double jabbed while 4,488,459 people have received their first dose.
