ARCHIVED - Improved access and parking at Poniente beach in Benidorm
A new footpath connects La Cala neighbourhood in the Marina Baixa town and opens up a car park for beach users
A new footpath has been built at Benidorm's popular Poniente beach, improving access for residents living in the La Cala neighbourhood and opening up a public car park for other beach users.
The walkway links the neighbourhood's Calle Marina Baixa with Calle Marina Alta where there is a large public car park next to the Tourist Development Centre (CDT) which was not previously utilised by beachgoers due to the "long walk".
"This new access means that around 500 parking spaces are available to beach users just a few metres from the sand, so residents and visitors no longer have to walk a long distance as they have had to in the past," said the Town Hall in statement.
The connecting footpath is just one of a number of "important improvements" in La Cala, a bustling area on the seafront with restaurants, hotels and bars.
The entrance to the car park will be upgraded, along with pavements, and street lights will be replaced with LED alternatives.
