ARCHIVED - Horse helicoptered to safety after becoming trapped in Costa Blanca ravine
The mare had to be airlifted out of a ditch it got caught in near the town of Pinoso, Spain

This Sunday, October 2, firefighters in Alicante were called out to rescue a mare that had fallen several metres down a ditch on the Cabeçó de la Sal mountain in the town of Pinoso.
At first, an attempt was made to rescue the animal by land, using footbridges to try to get her to climb up the slope, according to the Alicante Provincial Fire Brigade Consortium.
However, given the animal’s stress and fatigue, the mountain rescue group GER was called in and, with the aid of some slings, were able to make a harness to airlift the poor horse out using a helicopter.

The frightened flyer was then returned to the farm she had come from, which was just a few metres away from where she had become stuck.
