ARCHIVED - Hollywood war movie starring A-lister Jake Gyllenhaal is being shot in Alicante
War scenes for the film, directed by British screenwriter Guy Ritchie, are being filmed in the Alto Vinalopo town of Sax

The town of Sax in Alicante province has been chosen as the backdrop for scenes in the upcoming Hollywood action-war thriller 'The Interperter' starring A-lister and Oscar nominee Jake Gyllenhaal and directed by British screenwriter Guy Ritchie.
International film technicians visited Sax, Petrer and Villena three months ago, scouting for ideal locations for the shooting of a "large Hollywood production".
This week, around 100 vehicles, including huge caravans for use by actors and actresses, extras, specialists and the filming and directing crew descended on Sax to begin shooting scenes for the Afghanistan war-themed movie inspired by real events.
The production company Nogal Film have set up the filming camp close to Sax Castle in Camino del Coso, a site considered perfect for recreating realistic Afghan landscapes due to its pine groves and arid terrain. Simulated weapons will be used during the war scenes and two battle tanks are on standby.

Jake Gyllenhaal continues to be one of Hollywood's most in-demand actors following the huge success of films such as Brokeback Mountain, Jarhead and Spider-Man: Far From Home, whilst Sherlock Holmes and Aladdin filmmaker Ritchie will direct from a script he co-wrote with The Gentlemen collaborators Ivan Atkinson and Marn Davies.
Gyllenhaal plays the role of Sergeant John Kinley, who on his last tour of duty in Afghanistan teams up with local translator Ahmed to survey the region.
When their unit is ambushed on patrol, Kinley and Ahmed are the only survivors. With enemy combatants in pursuit, Ahmed risks his own life to carry an injured Kinley across miles of grueling terrain to safety.
Back on US soil, Kinley learns that Ahmed and his family were not given passage to America as promised. Determined to protect his friend and repay his debt, Kinley returns to the warzone to retrieve Ahmed and his family before the local militias reach them first.

Ritche was reportedly compelled to tell the story after several conversations with soldiers and translators who risked their lives to help them during the conflicts.
The film will be released by MGM in America and Amazon internationally, though a release date has not been given.
