ARCHIVED - High-speed rail operator Ouigo offers Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia tickets from just 9 euros
Cut price tickets to and from Spain's largest cities can be purchased for travel between 9am on January 10 to 11.50pm on January 11
Low-cost rail operator Ouigo, a subsidiary of the French company SNCF, has relaunched its popular 'Pink Days' campaign for January 10 and 11, during which time tickets can be purchased for 9, 15 and 19 euros.
The cut-price adult fares apply to all lines the company operates; the Madrid-Zaragoza-Tarragona-Barcelona and Madrid-Valencia routes. The flat fare of 5 euros for children between 4 and 13 years old, and the free fare for children up to 3 years old if they travel in the arms of an adult will be maintained.
The promotion coincides with an announcement from Spanish national rail company, Renfe, that it is incorporating two more AVE trains directly connecting Madrid and Seville from January 23.
The trains will run between the two cities without intermediate stops from Monday to Thursday, and tickets are already on sale until December 2023 at www.renfe.com, via the Renfe app, by calling 912 320 320, and at train station ticket offices and vending machines.
Meanwhile, Ouigo's promotional tickets are available via the www.ouigo.com and through the official app.
January's 'Pink Days' campaign follows a similar Ouigo initiative launched last November. For two days only, travellers were able to snap up tickets for less than 15 euros on the Madrid-Valencia line to celebrate the two-month inauguration of this particular route.
In what was hailed as "a new page in Spanish railway history", the route and high frequency of trains means Valencia is now the most connected city to Spain's capital.
"Ouigo is back with another flash offer in January because we want to help our passengers to overcome the dreaded post-Christmas cost and to continue travelling at high speed in 2023 without punishing their pockets", said Federico Pareja, Commercial and Marketing Director of Ouigo Spain.
Ouigo trains have a capacity of 509 seats in a single unit and 1,018 in a multiple unit that pollute on average 80 and 50 times less than an aeroplane and a car, respectively, according to a company statement.
The firm began operating in Spain in May 2021 with the Madrid-Zaragoza-Tarragona-Barcelona line and, since then, with the inclusion of the Valencia line, has transported more than 4.35 million passengers, with an average occupancy rate of over 93%.
