ARCHIVED - High-speed direct rail connection between Alicante province and Madrid hits the tracks next week
Passengers can board Renfe's new extended Madrid-Elche-Orihuela AVE service from February 28
State rail company Renfe has confirmed the new Madrid-Elche-Orihuela AVE service offering a direct high-speed connection with four stations in Alicante province will be operational from February 28.
The new service will stop in Alicante and Villena and tickets go on sale from Tuesday February 22.
The Orihuela-Madrid AVE began its commercial service on February 1 2021, with four trains a day, two in each direction. And from next week, the extended service means there will be six trains a day, three in each direction, with a total capacity of almost 2,200 passengers every 24 hours.
In addition, the trains to and from Orihuela will link with the stations of Murcia del Carmen, Balsicas-Mar Menor, Torre-Pacheco and Cartagena using a shuttle service, increasing the possibilities of travel between the Region of Murcia and Madrid.
