Foreign tourism in Murcia is growing faster than anywhere else in Spain
Murcia recorded the highest rate of grow in all of Spain
The Region of Murcia recorded a year-on-year increase of 20.7% in international tourists between January and September.
The number of tourists reached 914,141, making Murcia the autonomous community in which foreign tourism grew the most in this period.
This increase is well above the national average growth, which was 10.9 percent based on data published by the Frontur Survey of the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
According to Egatur, during their stay in the Region, foreign tourists spent 1,374 euros, Which is 12 percent more than in 2023.
In Spain as a whole, this expenditure increased by 5.4 percent compared to 2023 and amounted to 1,340 euros.
Total spending by foreign tourists in the Region in these nine months of 2024 reached a "record figure" of 1,256 million euros , compared to 929 million in the same period in 2023, an amount that represents 35.1 percent more.
The Region was the community in which foreign tourists spent the longest stays, with an average duration of their visit of 12.49 days, a figure that exceeds the national average (7.13 days) by more than five points.
In terms of origin, the United Kingdom was the largest source of international tourism, with 242,286 visitors, 2.2 percent more than in 2023 and accounting for 26.5 percent of the total number of foreign tourists.
France was the second largest market, with 198,549 visitors, up 38.7 percent, representing 21.7 percent of the international tourism received.
Belgium came third, with 92,703 tourists, representing a 10.1 percent share and 38.7 percent more than the number of tourists arriving in the same period in 2023.
The arrival of foreign tourists to the Region of Murcia reached 110,278 in September. This figure represents a year-on-year increase of 6.3 percent (6,558 more tourists than in September 2023).
