As of next week Finnair is offering a new connection from Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández airport to Helsinki, the latest airline to expand its operations on the Costa Blanca after Norwegian selected the airport as one of its two bases in Spain.

The new Alicante-Helsinki route is part of Finnair's summer 2022 programme which will create links from its hub in Helsinki with 70 European cities.

From April 4 to October 23, there will be three flights a week to the Nordic city as part of Finnair's "strategic strengthening of operations in Europe".

The airline has scheduled more than 300 daily flights this summer, and despite the closure of Russian airspace, "routes in Asia are maintained, destinations in India are inaugurated and flights in Europe and North America are being reinforced".

However, the closure of Russian airspace has meant that flights to Osaka, Nagoya and Fukuoka in Japan, have been suspended until at least October.
