Figure of patron saint restored in Santiago de la Ribera by the original sculptor
The sculpture of St James the Great is ready for his annual procession on 25th July!
The figure or religious image of Santiago Apóstol (St James the Great) which is kept in the parish church of Santiago de la Ribera and is to be taken out for procession on 25th July has been restored 28 years after it was first presented to the parish, and the main who has carried out the restoration is the sculptor who created the image in the first place!
Juan José Quirós was placed in charge of repairing various small defects which have come about since 1998 as result of the figure being handled during worship and the time elapsed since its creation, most of them related to the back of the saint’s cloak. A little stucco work and repainting has been required and a thorough clean-up carried out, especially on the head, hands and feet, and the sculptor now returns to what has been a very successful career after the completion of this, his first major work.
In the meantime, Santiago Apóstol is ready to make an appearance in the streets to celebrate his feast day on Saturday!
