Estepona's seafront just got a little more interesting this summer with a new evening market
Around thirty stalls selling handmade crafts, street food and rides have opened along the promenade, running until September 6
If you are spending time in Estepona this summer and find yourself at a loose end on a warm evening, the seafront just gave you a very good reason to take a stroll. The Ayuntamiento has opened a summer market along the promenade, with around thirty stalls offering everything from handcrafted goods to food, running until Sunday September 6.The market is open in the evenings from 7.00pm to midnight, which makes it a natural fit for the kind of unhurried summer evening that Estepona does particularly well. The craft and food stalls operate on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, while the rides are open every day of the week for those with younger visitors in tow.
There is one exception to the usual Thursday to Sunday schedule worth knowing about. During the Popi Ciudad de Estepona Ham Competition, the craft stalls will be open daily, so it is worth keeping an eye on local events if you want to make the most of a visit.
The market will also adapt its programme around other municipal events taking place on the seafront during the summer, ensuring everything runs smoothly alongside the rest of the season's activity.
The Ayuntamiento has been clear about what it is hoping to achieve with the initiative. Beyond giving locals and visitors something enjoyable to do on summer evenings, it is also a deliberate effort to support local artisans and showcase traditional crafts as both a cultural expression and a genuine source of employment. Estepona's seafront is already one of the most visited parts of the town, and adding a market to the mix feels like a natural way to build on that.
Whether you are after a handmade gift, a bite to eat or simply somewhere pleasant to wander with a drink in hand as the sun goes down, it is the kind of low-key addition to the summer calendar that tends to be rather enjoyable in practice.
