Jerez is pulling out all the stops this summer and there has never been a better time to visit
As Spain's Gastronomic Capital for 2026, the city has just launched a packed programme of 107 events running from now until the end of September
If Jerez has been on your list of places to explore, this summer might just be the perfect moment. The city is already riding high as Spain's Gastronomic Capital for 2026, and now the Ayuntamiento has launched a brand new summer programme called "Summer Tastes Like Jerez," bringing together 107 cultural, musical and sporting events running from June 11 to September 30.It is the first time the city has pulled everything together into a single, unified digital agenda, and the ambition behind it is clear. "We want to tell the world that Jerez is a unique and unparalleled city for a summer vacation," said Mayor María José García-Pelayo at the launch. "We don't want to be haphazard; we don't want to be stuck in improvisation, which is what has happened until now."
The programme covers a lot of ground. More than 30 of the 107 activities are focused on rural Jerez, giving visitors a chance to discover parts of the city that often get overlooked. There is live music in the central squares, flamenco in historic settings, horse shows, and the long-established Tío Pepe Festival, all woven into a summer calendar designed to appeal to families, young people and anyone who simply wants to wander and discover.
Flamenco fans are particularly well catered for. The popular Flamenco Fridays return to the Cloisters of Santo Domingo, and the Bulería Festival is back in its original home at Plaza Belén. Live music meanwhile is moving to the larger Plaza del Arenal this year, a deliberate decision to spread events more evenly across the city and give residents in quieter areas a better balance of activity and rest.
September brings two highlights worth planning around. The Vuelta a España cycling race will finish its time trial stage in Jerez on Wednesday September 10, starting from El Puerto de Santa María, and García-Pelayo promised it will be "slower, more enjoyable, very much at street level and close to the fans."
Then there is the Book Fair, which this year pays tribute to the writer Caballero Bonald on the centenary of his birth, with the mayor promising "top-tier" writers in what she described as an "exceptional" edition.
The full programme is available at www.jerez.es, through the Jerez Smart app, at the Tourist Office and across the city's social media channels.
With the Gastronomic Capital title, a cycling Grand Tour and a summer packed with culture and music, Jerez is shaping up to be one of Andalucía's most exciting destinations this season.
