ARCHIVED - Elderly couple suffer smoke inhalation in blaze at their Orihuela home
A car caught fire inside the garage and spread to the house in the Vega Baja, Alicante province
An 80-year-old woman and 82-year-old man were treated for smoke inhalation following a fire at their home in the La Murada disctrict of Orihuela.
A car parked inside a garage attached to the property caught fire at around 11pm, and the flames quickly spread to the house in Calle Riquelmes, which was engulfed in thick black smoke.
The Emergency Information and Coordination Centre (CICU) mobilised firefighters to tackle the blaze along with an SVB unit and medical team who assisted the octogenarians before they were taken to Vega Baja Hospital in Orihuela, suffering from smoke inhalation.
A spectacular industrial blaze broke out at a footwear workshop and warehouse in Catral, also in the Vega Baja, during the early hours of Sunday morning, October 10, totally gutting the building.
