ARCHIVED - Elche coastline transformed after eyesore beachside hotel is demolished
The derelict Arenales del Sol hotel in Elche has been pulled down and the site cleared ahead of "renaturalisation" project
In what Elche town hall has described as "an historical event", the derelict Arenales del Sol Hotel, a symbol of the beginnings of tourism on the Costa Blanca in the 1960s, has been reduced to rubble and the site cleared, completely transforming Elche coastline.
Demolition work began on Tuesday October 19 following a National Court order to "restore the naturalness and public use of this stretch of beach", and now, three weeks later, the area has been cleared and tidied up ahead of a phase of "regeneration and renaturalisation".
