ARCHIVED - Elche and Orihuela among the top 10 hottest places in Spain yesterday
The two Alicante towns registered temperatures of around 35ºC on Monday
While temperatures are supposed to drop in Alicante this week, down from the sweltering highs we saw last week, it was still a very hot Monday on May 23. In fact, two towns in Alicante province made it into the list of the top 10 hottest places in Spain.
Elche in Alicante was the 5th hottest place in the whole country and Orihuela was 7th.
According to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), the temperature at the hottest part of the day in Elche, 4pm, reached 35.3ºC, while in Orihuela it was 34.8ºC at 5.20pm.
The hottest place was in Malaga, in the town of Vélez-Málaga, where thermometers recorded a maximum of 38.5ºC, and the towns of Archena and Molina de Segura in Murcia also came in the top 10.
The weather is due to cool down very slightly in the next couple of days before getting hotter again next weekend.
