A weekend of sweltering highs as the mercury exceeded 37ºC in parts of Alicante province looks set to continue into Monday May 23, with the welcome addition of moderate winds, although temperatures will drop slightly as the week progresses in line with much of Spain.

According to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), most of the province can expect light cloud or clear skies and minimum temperatures will rise whilst maximums will fall inland, and increase slightly on the south coast.

Alcoy: 18ºC (lows) 32ºC (highs)
Alicante: 20ºC to 34ºC
Denia: 20ºC to 31ºC
Elche: 20ºC to 35ºC
Orihuela: 20ºC to 36ºC

Light cloud on Tuesday morning, May 24, will become a bit more intense as the day progresses and scattered showers with occasional thunderstorms are expected in the northern half of the province. Temperatures will fall across the board, with locally significant drops in the highs. Moderate north and easterly winds are forecast on the coast; light to moderate further inland.

Alcoy: 14ºC to 27ºC
Alicante: 18ºC to 27ºC
Denia: 18ºC to 26ºC
Elche: 19ºC to 29ºC
Orihuela: 19ºC to 32ºC

The picture looks pretty much the same for Wednesday May 25, although Alicante city, Alcoy and Elche can expect a sharper drop in temperatures than the rest of the province. Light to moderate northerly winds will prevail in the morning along the coast giving way to east and southerly winds later on. Light variable winds are forecast elsewhere in the province.

Alcoy: 10ºC to 21ºC
Alicante: 16ºC to 25ºC
Denia: 16ºC to 24ºC
Elche: 15ºC to 25ºC
Orihuela: 15ºC to 27ºC

Low cloud or clear skies are forecast on Thursday May 26, with little change in temperatures. It will be breezy along the coast and light easterly winds are forecast further inland.

Alcoy: 10ºC to 24ºC
Alicante: 14ºC to 24ºC
Denia: 15ºC to 25ºC
Elche: 14ºC to 26ºC
Orihuela: 13ºC to 27ºC
