ARCHIVED - Ebay to withdraw operations in Spain from July
The multinational company will be closing its base in Madrid and managing Spanish operations from Dublin
Ebay has officially confirmed that the company will be stopping its operations in Spain from July 1 and the Spanish Ebay website (ebay.es) will be managed by a team in Europe instead.
The online auction and shopping, or ‘ecommerce’, company made the decision to withdraw from Spain after reviewing their organization and infrastructure within the country. However, Ebay has stated that they will continue their operations with Spanish buyers and sellers and that they aren’t planning on leaving the Spanish market.
Operations in Spain will now be manged remotely by the European Ebay headquarters in Dublin, with the company ensuring customers and other businesses that this transition has already gone ahead smoothly in other European countries.
However, the 19 staff members who were employed at Ebay’s base in Madrid will not be relocated. According to the company, they have negotiated with the affected employees and have "reached an agreement that will benefit both parties."
