ARCHIVED - Drunk driver 7 times over the limit travelled 2.5km in wrong direction in Alicante
Several motorists in the Marina Alta town had to swerve to avoid a head-on collision
Several motorists in Spain’s Costa Blanca narrowly avoided colliding head-first with an extremely drunk driver as she careened the wrong way down the CV-729 in the Marina Alta region of Alicante on Saturday May 1.
After travelling for two and a half kilometres in the wrong direction, the suspect eventually went the opposite way around a round-about in the town of Sanet y Negrals and crashed on top of it, grinding to a halt.
Before officers arrived, several panicked drivers had contacted the emergency services, claiming that they had had to swerve out of the vehicle’s way to avoid a nasty collision.

When the Guardia Civil arrived at the scene and breathalysed the 52-year-old Spanish woman, her expiration level was at 1.9m/l, which is a staggering seven times over the legal alcohol level.
The matter is being handled by the Reporting Team of the Guardia Civil of the Benidorm Traffic Detachment and the woman will be charged with driving under the influence and reckless driving.
