ARCHIVED - Delve into the history of Mazarron with a brand-new archive of photos
The municipality of Mazarrón has a long and fascinating history, and now the Town Hall has made it easier than ever before for people to find out more about Mazarrón’s past with a new online archive of photos and documents.
This new portal brings together more than 50,000 documents described that can now be consulted at the click of a button.
The local Councillor for Archives and Libraries, Concepción Aparicio, has presented the new municipal website https://archivo.mazarron.es for the Archive of Mazarrón, which it is hoped will help to conserve and preserve the documentary heritage of the town.
“From today, both users and scientists can consult documents and photographs that are in custody of the Municipal Archives of Mazarrón,” she said.
This is just the first phase of an ongoing and arduous process of collection and digitisation that starts with the project ‘Album Mazarrón’.
As municipal archivist, Magdalena Campillo, said, “The Municipal Archives did not have a photographic collection,” but thanks to the collaboration of “the many citizens who have selflessly donated their photographs that project has become a reality.”
The Council now has over 7,000 images which have been donated by citizens, documenting and illustrating the history of the municipality. And they are still open to receiving more photos to add to their archives, which can be consulted by researchers and ordinary people alike.
