ARCHIVED - Death of dog tied up on rooftop in the sun for three days in Torrevieja prompts public demo
Residents outraged over the animal's suffering in the Vega Baja town, Alicante province, will rally on September 11

The heartbreaking death of a dog left tied up on a rooftop in the sun for three days without water has sparked outrage amongst residents in Torrevieja who will take to the streets on September 11 to highlight the appalling neglect in a bid to stop it happening again.
On August 17, neighbours in Nueva Torrevieja reported that a dog was abandoned on a rooftop, restrained without food or water and contacted the Association in Defence of Animals of Torrevieja (ADAT) which made an official complaint to the Guardia Civil.
The association also contacted the Town Hall's Councillor for Animal Protection, Concha Sala who informed the Local Police and the following day a patrol went to the house where the owner assured officers that "everything was fine", and the dog was left on the roof.
Sadly, the animal perished in the sweltering heat and died on August 20.
Councillor Sala has since issued a statement claiming the Local Police followed the protocol stipulated in these cases and that "representatives of the council went to the house to see first hand what was happening".
However, she added that on "no occasion was it possible to gain access to the house because none of the people living there responded", although this contradicts earlier reports.
The statement added that "it was impossible to contact the neighbours, owners and those responsible for the animal, both on the part of the Department of Animal Protection and the Local Police itself".
"The council has brought to the attention of the Court of Guardia all these facts, and an investigation will clarify the facts".
Despite the council's version of events, independent councillor Nacho Torre-Marín and the Association of Neighbours of Nueva Torrevieja have called a peaceful rally to "ensure a similar event does not happen again".
The three-hour demonstration will take place on Sunday September 11 at 6pm in Paseo Juan Aparicio.
