ARCHIVED - Dead cow washes up on Alicante beach
The animal carcass was discovered with a rope tied around its leg on Muchavista beach in El Campello

The carcass of a dead cow was discovered washed up on the Rincón de la Zofra stretch of coast in El Campello with a rope tied to its leg, suggesting it had been thrown overboard a boat transporting cattle.
The dead animal appeared on Muchavista beach on Friday afternoon, October 22, and according to the local council, weighed approximately 600 kilos and was in "an advanced state of decomposition".
The carcass had been washed ashore by the currents and was spotted by beach users who alerted the local council, before four maintenance workers, with the help of a digger, towed the dead animal away.

"Unfortunately, it is nothing new for dead cattle to appear on the coasts," explained a cleaning service worker, adding that, "it seems that some boats responsible for the maritime transport of animals, after the death of an animal, decide to throw them into the sea".
"The fact the carcass found in the Rincón de la Zofra area had a rope tied to one of its legs indicates that this inappropriate practice may have been used to dispose of the animal," added the town council in a statement.
