Technicians began putting up the lights on November 17 and the 20-metre tree has already taken pride of place on the Paseo de Juan Aparicio, although it will remain in darkness until the main event next week.

In total, 34 main roads, streets, avenues, squares and churches will be decorated throughout Torrevieja and La Mata, and some less flashy lights will be installed in residential areas and the outskirts of the city.
Over the weekend, two trees similar to the giant central one will be set up in the Palacio de los Deportes and Plaza Encarnación Puchol de la Mata.
The official switch-on next Friday will centre around a main stage in the Plaza de la Constitución and will be followed by an orchestral performance and a DJ, while the city’s famous nativity scene will be unveiled on Saturday December 2. Wrapping up a weekend of festive fun, the Nordic community’s Christmas tree will be illuminated on Sunday December 3.
Torrevieja has signed a two-year contract for festive lighting, which will cost 543,000 euros per annum. Of the total amount, almost 400,000 euros will be spent on decorating the city during the patron saint celebrations and Christmas, while the rest will go towards other festivities throughout the year, such as the Carnivals and the May Fair.
