DANA storm brings rain and snow to Murcia this Tuesday and Wednesday
Weather alerts are active in Murcia for this Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning
Murcia weather warning, Tuesday November 12
Murcia is preparing to receive heavy rain and the season’s first snowfall this Tuesday and Wednesday as a DANA (Depresión Aislada en Niveles Altos) weather system passes over the Mediterranean arc.
According to Spain’s State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), rainfall is expected to reach up to 40 litres per square metre on Wednesday November 13.

Meanwhile, a yellow weather warning is already in effect for parts of the region on Tuesday afternoon, November 12, signalling a potential for thunderstorms and flash floods.
Juan Esteban Palenzuela, Murcia’s Aemet territorial delegate, explained that while this DANA will hit parts of Spain with significant intensity, the Region of Murcia may avoid the worst of the weather.
Other areas likely to be more affected include the Balearic Islands, the southern part of the province of Valencia, northern Alicante, and the Andalusian coastline between Granada and Málaga.
Nevertheless, those in Murcia should expect overcast skies, cooler temperatures and light to moderate winds, with strong gusts forecasted in the Campo de Cartagena and Mar Menor.
The drop in temperatures will be particularly notable in high-altitude areas like Yecla and Jumilla, where a decrease of over six degrees Celsius is expected compared to Tuesday’s highs.
Snowfall is predicted above 1,200 metres, meaning that the mountains in the region could see the first snowflakes of the autumn season.
The DANA has also prompted Cartagena and Lorca to activate the pre-emergency phase of their storm response plans due to expected heavy rain on Tuesday.
The yellow warning covers the Guadalentín Valley, Lorca, Águilas, Campo de Cartagena and Mazarrón, with the alert set to start at 6pm and last until midnight. Aemet foresees rainfall of up to 20 millimetres in just one hour, with storms likely in some areas.
Across Spain, the adverse weather conditions have placed over ten provinces on alert, including orange warnings for heavy rain in Valencia, Alicante and the Balearic islands of Mallorca, Ibiza and Formentera, while neighbouring areas like Barcelona, Tarragona and Menorca are under yellow alerts.
Additional warnings for snow are active in the northwestern areas of Asturias, León and Palencia, with strong winds forecasted in Zaragoza. Coastal areas, including parts of Alicante, Castellón, Valencia and A Coruña, are also under wave alerts due to storm surges.
While the DANA is expected to bring notable rainfall and disruption, it is not anticipated to be as severe as the one that affected Valencia two weeks ago. Palenzuela urged residents to stay informed, as weather conditions and warnings can change rapidly, particularly with an unsettled DANA system over the Mediterranean.
The latest forecasts suggest a cloudy Thursday with isolated showers in Murcia, followed by a slight rise in temperatures.
