ARCHIVED - Cricket tournament 2021 held in Alfaz del Pi
This week sees the qualifying stages of the European Cricket Series in the Marina Baixa town
The T10 European Cricket Series is being held in Alfaz del Pi in Alicante province from October 27 to 29 2021 and broadcast by the European Cricket Network (ECN). Cricket fans around the world are following the qualifying stages of the cricket tournament, which is being played by such Spanish teams as Sporting Alfas and Madrid United.
The winner of this qualifying round will play this weekend for a place in the next European Cricket Championship.
Cricket in Alfaz del Pi
This isn’t the first time that Alfaz del Pi has held an international cricket tournament. In March 2020 the town hosted a tournament involving the teams Sporting Alfas, Intellectuals, La Manga, Levante, Madrid United and Pinatar Pirates, which was broadcast to cricket fans in Britain, Pakistan, India and Australia and put Alfaz del Pi on the map.
These cricket tournaments are increasingly becoming a big part of the town’s economy, with more than 200 hotel bookings made each time in the area of Albir.
Local Councillor for Sports, Óscar Pérez, praised Alfaz Cricket Club for their good work and stressed “the importance of bringing to the municipality such competitions for the economic impact they produce in the hospitality and catering industries and the international impact they generate, being televised live on Internet platforms and making Alfaz del Pi known around the world.”
Alfaz Cricket Club is looking forward to hosting more tournaments of this nature in the future.
