ARCHIVED - Covid restrictions over the Christmas holidays in the region of Valencia
There are several measures in place across the region, including the province of Alicante
With more festive celebrations ahead and an increasing number of coronavirus cases in the region of Valencia, there are several anti-Covid restrictions in place to reduce virus transmission.
Although the Spanish government hasn’t imposed any nationwide measures, except mandatory face masks, the regional authorities in Valencia have taken steps slow the spread of coronavirus over the Christmas holidays.
Masks
The national government reintroduced mandatory face masks or coverings in outdoor spaces across the country ahead of Christmas and this rule will remain in place until further notice. This means that everyone must wear a mask while on public roads and outdoor spaces, regardless of whether they are able to social distance or not.
Covid certificates
Covid passports, which show proof of vaccination, a negative test result or having recently had the virus, are mandatory to be able to enter several establishments in the region of Valencia, including bars and restaurants. These certificates have been mandatory for several weeks now and the Superior Court of Justice in the Valencian Community (TSJCV) has recently approved the use of Covid certs until January 31.
Social gatherings
Although there are no limitations on social gatherings, the official recommendation is “no more than two households”, and, although there is no maximum number of guests in private homes, the hospitality sector in Valencia is still limited to ten customers per table.
Celebrations and events
As the pandemic evolves, several large events, which involve crowds of people, are being cancelled or postponed, including several New Year’s Eve celebrations, such as in Alicante city.
