ARCHIVED - Covid Update June 29: Infections continue to rise in Alicante with half aged under 30
Once again, new cases have risen in the three Valencia region provinces with 965 new infections, 146 in Alicante.
In the latest update from the Valencian regional Ministry of Health, there have been 965 new diagnosis of coronavirus since Saturday, June 26, with half of the new cases aged under 30.
This brings the total number of positives since the start of the pandemic in the region to 400,962 people.
By provinces, there have been: 146 in Alicante (149,502 in total); 772 in Valencia (210,012 in total); and 47 in Castellón (41,447 in total).
The Ministry confirmed today, Tuesday, June 29, that more than half, 52 per cent, of new infections are young people aged between 15 and 29-years-old. A breakdown shows 29 per cent of the new positives are aged 20 to 29, and 23 per cent are between 15 and 19-years-old.
The remainder are aged 30 to 49.
According to the regional health department's deputy director of epidemiology, Herme Vanaclocha, "the relaxation of prevention measures is linked to an increase in social interaction in larger groups of people, causing the increase in cases currently being observed".
Hospitals: There are currently 126 Covid patients admitted to Valencian hospitals - up 11 since the last update: 19 in the province of Alicante, three of them in the ICU; 95 in the province of Valencia, 10 in ICU; and 12 in the province of Castellón, one patient in ICU.
Fatalities: There have been no Covid-related deaths since Saturday, so the total number of fatalities since the beginning of the pandemic remains at 7,450: 2,844 in the province of Alicante; 3,799 in Valencia; and 807 in Castellón.
Active cases: There are currently 3,749 active cases, which represents 0.91 per cent of the total positives.
Recoveries: 352 patients have been given the all-clear, meaning 401,230 people have recovered since the pandemic began. By province, there have been: 149,629 in Alicante; 209,516 in Valencia; and 42,028 in Castellón.
