ARCHIVED - Covid Update June 25: Infections spike in Alicante province
New cases have surged in the three Valencia region provinces with 821 new infections, 120 in Alicante.
The Valencian regional Ministry of Health has today (Friday, June 25) reported 821 new diagnosis of coronavirus in two days - four times higher than the 204 on Monday.
This brings the total number of positives confirmed since the start of the pandemic in the region to 399,624 people.
By provinces, there have been: 120 new cases in Alicante (149,269 in total); 668 in Valencia (208,975 in total); and 33 in Castellón (41,379 in total).
Given the hike in the figures, the Minister of Health, Ana Barceló, has made a fresh call for prudence “and to maintain the enormous effort and sacrifice that has already been made to comply with sanitary restrictions and contain the pandemic".
Hospitals: Despite the rise in infections in Alicante province, the number of patients admitted with Covid remains unchanged since Monday, with 18 currently hospitalised, though there are now four in ICU.
Across the region, there are currently 115 people admitted: nine in the province of Castellón, with one patient in ICU; 88 in the province of Valencia, 12 in ICU; and those in Alicante.
Fatalities: There have been no Covid-related reported today, meaning the total number of deaths across the region since the beginning of the pandemic stands at 7,450: 2,844 in Alicante province; 3,799 in Valencia; and 807 in Castellón., 2,844 in Alicante and 3,799 in Valencia.
Recoveries: 367 people have given the all-clear, bringing the total number of recoveries in the region to 400,878 since the pandemic began. By province, there have been: 149,519 in Alicante; 209,289 in Valencia; and 42,013 in Castellón.
Vaccinations: 2,447,861 people across the region have had at least one dose, and 1,605,735 have had two doses of Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca, or a single dose of Janssen. Of these, 588,907 live in Alicante province.
