ARCHIVED - Covid Update: July 15: Cumulative incidence surpasses 400 cases in Valencia region
2,534 new positives in the region's three provinces, including Alicante, as incidence reaches 408 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
Despite restrictions in 32 municipalities in the Valencia region to combat a surge in infections, Covid diagnoses and the 14-day cumulative incidence rate continue to climb, the latter jumping by more than 20 points in 24 hours to 408.
While this is below the national average of 501 cases, the region has the seventh highest incidence rate in the country, having had the lowest (with 26 cases) two months ago.
The Valencia region's health department has confirmed 2,534 new Covid cases, along with an increase in hospital occupancy - including ICU - with 31 more admissions than on Wednesday, representing 3.80 per cent of the total beds occupied.
And as has been the trend for the last few weeks, the biggest growth in positives and cumulative incidence has been amongst young people, with a leap to 1,239 cases per 100,000 amongst 20 to 29-year-olds, followed by the 12 to 19 age group, with a rate of 955.
Between 30 and 39-year-olds, the incidence is 519; 40 to 49-yer-olds, (301); those under 11 years of age (249); 50 to 59, (184); 60 to 69 (147); those over 80 (99); and 70 to 79 (74).
The new positives confirmed by PCR test or antigen test bring the total since the start of the pandemic to 426,077. By province, since the last update, there have been: 641 in Alicante (154,209 in total); 1,638 in Valencia (227,977 in total); and 255 in Castellón (43,889 in total).
Hospitals: There are currently 421 Covid patients being treated in Valencian hospitals (up from 390), of which 61 are in ICU (up from 48). By province: 55 in Alicante, seven of them in the ICU; 338 in Valencia, 51 in ICU; and 28 in Castellón, three in ICU.
Recoveries: 1,365 people have recovered from Covid, meaning 409,479 people have been given the all-clear since the start of the pandemic: 151,088 in Alicante province; 215,756 in Valencia; and 42,576 in Castellón in Castellón.
Fatalities: There have been two deaths recorded in the last seven days, meaning the total stands at 7,470: 2,850 in Alicante province, 3,811 in Valencia; and 809 in Castellón.
Active cases: There are currently 20,590 active cases, which represents 4.71 per cent of the total positives.
Vaccinations: A total of 2,916,639 people have received at least one dose and 2,343,850 are fully immunised. By provinces: 840,623 in Alicante; 1,223,195 in Valencia; and 840,623 in Castellón.
Throughout July, the vaccination of around 5.000 homeless people across the region will be carried out, according to the region's Ministry of Health, focusing on people who "live on the streets, live in precarious housing or are in a situation of extreme vulnerability, in settlements or residential centres (homes or hostels)".
And to try to combat the surge in infections amongst young people, the immunisation of those under 30 will "be accelerated".
