ARCHIVED - Costa Blanca Rawhiders help underprivileged children for Christmas
ARCHIVED ARTICLE -
The local biker group donated presents to over two dozen children who had nothing this festive season
The Costa Blanca Rawhiders Motorcycle Club, a group of bikers made up mainly of retired expats in Alicante province and the Murcia Region, were out on Saturday December 10 helping underprivileged children in San Fulgencio, delivering toys and sharing smiles in collaboration with the charity Association for Helping the Needy in San Fulgencio (known as AAN for its initials in Spanish).
The Rawhiders set off on their specially decorated bikes from La Marina Fuel Station all dressed in Father Christmas outfits with an escort from the Local Police. From there, they drove all around the La Marina area, beeping their horns and waving to onlookers and other motorists.
The ride ended behind Bar Los Amigos in the Consum Square in La Marina, where Local Councillor Samantha Hull Gallon played the role of judge to select the best decorated bike.
Following the contest, the bikers then retired to the bar to have breakfast with the staff from the AAN charity and presented all the various presents to them.
On her Facebook feed, the Councillor said it was “Another wonderful morning with the bikers from the Rawhiders who turned out in force, all dressed up in Santa outfits with their stunning bikes to deliver toys to the most needy children of our municipality.”
She continued: “It was a great honour to again be asked to judge the best decorated bike and although the decision was really difficult, I had my lovely friends at the AAN to help me. We finally chose the one with the Santa face on the front as the attention to detail on the decoration was second to none and the vote was unanimous!
“Once again, a huge thanks to everyone who took part, and to Rawhider Dave Joynes for arranging it. These small acts of kindness and generosity are what Christmas is all about. Let it continue as a wonderful tradition here in San Fulgencio”
In turn, the Rawhiders gave “a big thank you to Sam for judging the best dressed bike contest” and also “to the Policía Local for their co-operation and very professional assistance in safely escorting us in convoy around the local area”.
The Rawhiders explained how their relationship with the charity works to allow them to donate so many Christmas presents to those who need them every year: “The charity give us the number of children (usually between 2 and 15 years old) and their ages and gender (no names) that they would like us to buy presents for (approximately 25 this year).
“We then allocate an age and gender to each of our members, and they then go and personally purchase presents for that age and gender at their own expense. Our members have big hearts and families of their own, and their generosity is very magnanimous.”
They added: “It’s something we are proud to do every year.”
