ARCHIVED - Cold snap makes chilly return with showers: Alicante weather April 4-7
Alicante recorded its coldest night in April for 35 years on Saturday April 2
Unstable weather conditions continue in Alicante with a brief spell of sunshine, which came hot on the heels of heavy rain, replaced by a cold spell and notable drop in temperatures until Thursday April 7. Occasional showers are also forecast this week.
Saturday night, April 2, was the coldest night in April recorded in Alicante city for 35 years, and the chilliest this year since January 29 as the mercury dropped to 4.5 ºC, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).
Elsewhere in the province, Villena shivered in lows of 2.3ºC on Saturday night, Novelda and Pego both recorded 4.1ºC, and Elche 4.4ºC.
And in the upper part of Serra de la Serrela, which borders Aitana, Aixortá and Alfaro mountains, snow has settled this morning from 1,100 metres upwards.

Looking ahead, Aemet forecasts cloud, rain, unusually low temperatures for this time of year and possible thunderstorms on Tuesday April 5.
Monday April 4
Dull and cloudy start to the day with a chance of light showers early on. Northeasterly winds will be occasionally strong in coastal areas, with very strong gusts in the southern half; in the rest, light wind from the east, with intense intervals during mid-afternoon.

- Alicante: 10ºC to 14ºC
- Denia: 9ºC to 14ºC
- Elche: 9ºC to 13ºC
- Orihuela: 10ºC to 13ºC
Tuesday April 5
Predominantly cloudy or overcast skies with precipitation expected to be heavier in the afternoon in the form of showers occasionally accompanied by thunderstorms. Localised heavy showers are not ruled out. Occasionally strong northeasterly winds are likely on the coast; in the rest of the area, light easterly wind, with intervals of greater intensity during the afternoon.

- Denia: 10ºC to 14ºC
- Elche: 9ºC to 13ºC
- Orihuela: 10ºC to 12ºC
Wednesday April 6
Wednesday will kick off with cloudy skies which are expected to clear slightly during the afternoon. Showers are forecast until midday, particularly in the southern half of the province. Minimum temperatures will rise slightly in the north, more marked inland, whilst maximum temperatures look set to increase across the board, more noticable in the southern half.
Coastal areas can expect north-easterly winds in the morning, tending to south-westerly in the afternoon; in the rest of the province, a light wind from the west and south is forecast.

- Denia: 8ºC to 17ºC
- Elche: 5ºC to 18ºC
- Orihuela: 6ºC to 18ºC
Thursday April 7
Low cloud or clear skies and a welcome rise in temperatures across the province. Light winds from the west and south will become more intense along the coast in the afternoon.

- Alicante: 12ºC to 23ºC
- Denia: 12ºC to 21ºC
- Elche: 10ºC to 24ºC
- Orihuela: 10ºC to 24ºC
