ARCHIVED - Cloudy skies and rain ahead in Alicante: September 30 and October 1
The province and much of the Valencia region can expect maximum temperatures of 27 degrees Celsius
As September draws to a close, cloudy skies with probable rainfall are forecast in coastal areas of Alicante province on Thursday September 29, mostly in the north, according to the State Meteorological Agency, Aemet.
Minimum temperatures will rise slightly in the south of the Valencia region, with little change in the north, whilst temperatures are not expected to rise higher than 27 degrees, accompanied by light easterly winds.
The cloudy skies will remain throughout Friday October 1, although rainfall in coastal areas with subside later in the day, and move further inland. Temperatures will remain the same, but winds are forecast to “increase in intensity” on the north coast of Alicante.
September has brought with it characteristic changeable weather that has seen much of Alicante province, and the Valenica region as a whole, experience storms and intense rains, along with clear skies and sizzling temperatures.
And according to Samuel Biener, an expert from Meteored and Alicante University’s Climatology Laboratory, the wet weather looks set to continue in October, one of the rainiest months in much of Spain.
“It is usual that, during October, the first relevant storms occur as a result of Atlantic storms or episodes of DANA, with the feared catastrophic floods that occur in the Mediterranean slope. But, for the moment, although at night it will start to cool down, summer type temperatures will continue in the province until the weekend,” said Biener, although there will be rainfall in parts.
The expert predicts that during the first fortnight in October, Alicante will experience “variable weather”, alternating cool and unstable cycles with other more stable and warm ones.
In the first few days, unsettled weather is expected due to the arrival of a cold front of Atlantic origin, but after that, rainfall is likely to be average or slightly above for October across the Valencia region. But by the end of the month, “rainfall will be above average”, warns Biener.
