Campillo de Adentro and Borricen to be connected to water and sewage mains for the first time
The improvement works will benefit dozens of rural homes in Cartagena which have been largely cut off for decades

Cartagena City Council has approved two major projects that will transform the lives of hundreds of residents. The locale of Borricén will be connected to the sewage network for the first time ever while Campillo de Adentro, parts of which still hadn’t been connected to the mains in the late 1980s, will be provided with drinking water.
The project will be carried out in two phases: the initial stage will provide water supply to the area of Campillo de Adentro, in the vicinity of La Azohía and the Sierra de Cabo Tiñoso, through the construction of a reservoir and a drinking water distribution network.
The storage facility will have a total capacity of 230 m3 and since the water will have to be hauled in on trucks, an access road will also be built.
With a budget of around 170,000 euros, the project should be completed within two months and will not only benefit the fifty permanent inhabitants but also the large number of people who have second homes in the area.
Phase two focuses on the new sanitation network in El Borricén, which didn’t actually have a municipal sewage system until 2015, and even then the installation didn’t reach the scattered homes in the north of the district.
This will now be remedied within three months with a budget of 248,000 euros.
