British instagrammer scales third-highest building in Benidorm in social media stunt
The young blogger climbed the 158-metre-high Lugano Tower in Benidorm barefoot and without any safety equipment
With so many senseless tragedies associated with balcony falls making the headlines in Spain this summer, it’s hard to imagine anyone risking life and limb for a few social media likes. But that’s just what happened last weekend in Benidorm, when one British influencer scaled the city’s third highest building, barefoot and without any safety equipment to speak of.
The silhouette of the Luango Tower, Benidorm’s third highest building, dominates the city’s skyline at an impressive 158 metres. Between 2008 and 2021 it was actually the tallest skyscraper before being overtaken by the iconic Intempo and the Hotel Bali. It remains, however, the tenth highest in all of Spain.
The Luango has been made even more famous now by the viral video posted by Instagrammer @nuisance69_, who filmed himself free climbing the side of the building. This means he scaled the enormous building without any ropes or harnesses – or even shoes – exposing himself to a potentially deadly fall.
This foolhardy young man has more than 34,000 followers on Instagram and hails from Manchester in the UK. In the text accompanying his social media post, he explains that he has wanted to climb the Luango Tower since the first time he laid eyes on it, and he finally got his chance last weekend.
The climb took 34 minutes, with him stopping at each floor to check if people were watching and to test the metal to see if it could support his weight. After he got to the top, the blogger said that while the climb was “dusty and uncomfortable”, he had enjoyed every minute of it.
He finished off his daredevil feat by taking a snap of himself lying down on the roof of the Tower.
This isn’t the first time @nuisance69_ has taken on a daring challenge in the Valencian Community. He has previously hung from a crane in Benidorm and even got arrested for taking a selfie from the 11th floor of a building.
