ARCHIVED - British club CHUMS gives Costa Blanca food bank a welcome boost
The non-profit organisation in Alfaz del Pi has donated 600 euros worth of food and cleaning products to the needy
Members of British club CHUMS of Charity continue to do their bit for the Marina Baixa community and this week presented the Alfaz del Pi Social Voluntary Organisation with 600 euros worth of non-perishable foodstuffs, hygiene and cleaning products.
The Association is in charge of running the region's Food Bank, supporting less fortunate families and those at risk of social exclusion whilst trying to ensure nobody goes without the bare necessities.
CHUMS, a non-profit organisation, was set up in September 2015, and currently has around 100 members, all British expats living in the Marina Baixa region of Alicante province who hold regular social meetings and coffee mornings to raise funds.
Two years earlier, Alfaz del Pi Social Voluntary Organisation was founded with the sole aim of assisting vulnerable people in the area.
Around 40 volunteers dedicate a large part of their free time to collecting, sorting and distributing clothes and food, as well as caring for the elderly and the sick.
They also carry out public awareness-raising campaigns to promoting a culture of solidarity.
