ARCHIVED - Brit one of four arrested in Torrevieja cannabis clubs raids
Drugs were being dealt from premises registered as cannabis clubs in the Vega Baja town, Alicante province

Another blow has been dealt to the illegal sale of drugs in Torrevieja following the arrests of four people, including a British man, and the closure of two 'cannabis clubs'.
The Guardia Civil, as part of the National Plan against the Consumption of Drugs in Leisure Areas, carried out raids on the premises, registered as 'cannabis associations', which were located close to a popular leisure area in the town.
A few months ago, following tip offs from members of the public, police became aware of the existence of the two premises that were reportedly "frequented by minors".
It was discovered marijuana and its derivatives were being sold and used inside the cannabis clubs. Being private and closed, the premises fall under the legal protection of the L.O. 1/2002, of 22 March, which regulates the "right of association".
However, the "act of cultivation, elaboration or illegal trafficking of narcotic and psychotropic substances, or promotion to facilitate the illegal consumption of toxic drugs, as well as the possession and consumption on public roads, is totally prohibited".

A British and a Spanish man, aged 24 and 28 respectively, along with two women, one Spanish, aged 30, and the other Romanian, 35, were arrested.
They have been charged with being part of a criminal organisation and drug trafficking, and the premises were judicially closed.
All four appeared before Torrevieja's Court of Instruction and were released with conditions, pending a trial date.
