Body of elderly woman found floating off Benidorm beach
The body was located by drones in the waters of Levante beach
The lifeless body of an older woman was pulled from the waters off the famous Levante beach in Benidorm on Tuesday November 28 after the emergency services received reports of a sighting near Rincón de Loix. The Local Police were then able to send out drones to pinpoint the exact location of the corpse, which was floating close to the cable-ski.
According to the spokesperson for Benidorm Local Police, Quique Tortosa, the first report came it at 9.30.
"Immediately, we moved our aerial unit with the specific equipment for locating people and we were able to find an inert body 320 metres from the coastline,” he added.
The body is that of a woman aged between 60 and 70 years old but while her identity and cause of death are still known, investigators have preliminarily ruled out the option that she is a migrant who drowned while trying to make the crossing to Spain.
The local area was combed by drones "to see if there was any kind of belongings" or any item that would help to identify the victim, but nothing has been discovered as yet.
