ARCHIVED - Benidorm police arrest dangerous Dutch fugitive wanted for assault and illegal detention
The 32-year-old detained in the popular Costa Blanca holiday resort faces a 12-month prison sentence in the Netherlands
A violent and dangerous Dutchman on the run from the authorities in the Netherlands has been arrested in Benidorm.
The 32-year-old is wanted for assault, making threats and illegal detention, crimes which were committed in Amsterdam in 2019. He faces a 12-month prison sentence, of which he has to serve 150 days.
National Police officers caught up with the man-on-the-run, who was subject to a European Arrest Warrant and Extradition (OEDE) issued by the Dutch authorities, by chance during a routine crime prevention and anti-drug patrol.
On spotting the police, the Dutchman tried to make a run for it, but officers caught up with him and, on checking his identity, discovered there was a warrant for his arrest.
He was placed at the disposal of the Central Court of Instruction of the National Court of Madrid, which will be responsible for processing the European Arrest and Extradition Warrant.
